Installation of solar heating and solar energy panels for swimming pools and villas in the Algarve.Solar heating systems require exactly the same skills as air conditioning installations and PENGUIN engineers have taken part in well over 100 solar panel installs which can be used to heat your pool as well as your villa. Modern solar panels are far more efficient than even a number of years ago and the new Portuguese building regulations require every new home to have pre-installation for solar heating. For existing Villas your ROI (Return on Investment) can be as little as 3 years - which means that afterwards your hot water heating is free If you heat your pool and you change to solar heating - you can save yourself a small fortune!! Heat pumps, heat exchangers, and solar pool heating across the Algarve - Jandy, Heat Siphon, Zodiac, and Heat Perfector. Heat pumps or heat exchangers are the most efficient, trouble-free way of swimming pool heating. Heat pumps run on electricity and emit absolutely no exhausts that pollute the air – they are low NOx by definition. They work by extracting heat from the air and transferring it into the pool water. Since the air is always warm when the pool is in use, it is the perfect and most efficient use for a heat pump. Heat pumps are so efficient at transferring this heat that they operate at a lower cost than natural gas. Enjoy warm pool water this summer with an efficient, non-polluting heat pump.

Penguin installed underfloor heating is the modern choice for heating domestic and commercial properties. There are so many advantages to undefloor heating that the annual growth of the European market is now between 15 and 20%.
Underfloor heating system consists of either heating cables or heating mats controlled by an electronic thermostat, thus providing efficient room heating in your bathroom or living room, your office or in any space that requires comfortable warmth. The 2 main types of under floor heating consist of wet (water is used in the pipes) or dry which is heated by electricity. Electric underfloor heating is cheaper to install but wet underfloor heating is a lot cheaper to run and can of course be connected to solar panels and a highly efficient heat pump! |

Penguin work with an associate company who handle all the necessary applications / paperwork etc for PV systems, which are significantly different from conventional solar heating systems. This is also because there are now excellent government-backed schemes to encourage the implementation of PV systems in homes in Portugal, i.e. whereby you generate electricity to sell to EDP at a rate approx 5 times higher than their standard charge rate to consumers. -
The current consumer rate for electricity from EDP = €0,12 per kW/hr -
The current selling rate to EDP via a solar PV system = €0,62 per kW/hr A typical PV system costs around €23,000 to purchase & install but nowadays there are dedicated 100% (one hundred per cent) finance deals available from the Portuguese banks following government legislation. The largest system that the scheme allows for is 3.6KW, for which you would need approx 40sqm of south-facing roof or land without any obstruction / shadows. Such a system will pay for itself in 5-6 years, after which time you are solely generating income. The selling rate to EDP remains constant for the first 5 years but will then drop each year from the 6th year onwards. After the 15th year the selling rate will have dropped close to the buying rate of electricity from EDP at that time. The system is installed and operates entirely independently from your domestic electrical system(so no need to change that) – you simply earn an income from the electricity it inputs to the national grid, offset against your own EDP bills. The only caveat to the scheme is that you must already have – or additionally install – a thermal solar system for your domestic / sanitary water supply. |
